The Penny Wrangle!
Our
middle school team has put together
this very clever way to
raise pennies, nickles, dimes, quarters and
dollars for the victims of the earthquakes in Haiti.
Classes
will compete for points. Whichever class gets the most points
wins. (There is no prize, just the knowledge that they have
helped others.) The class that wins gets to choose the charity to
donate to for Haiti
- Red Cross, Catholic Charities, Doctors Without Borders, etc.
Pennies
get positive points, and nickles, dimes,
quarters, or paper money get negative points. By putting
'negative points' in other classes milk
jugs, they can sabotage other classes chance of winning.
We
already had lots of students running around putting dollars in other
classes' jugs! Get ready for your kids to ask for all your
change! Let's make this a really big event for our
school. Let's teach our children the power of compassion and
generosity.

It
was a
heartbreaker!
It was a tie at the buzzer,
then three nerve wracking minutes as the
Summit Academy Eagles
basketball team fought to break the tie to win their 2010 Homecoming
game against AIE on Thursday!
Congratulations to all the
players and the coaches for two well-played Homecoming games!

If Santa was nice this
year . . .
Maybe
he brought you some new computer equipment! If he did, consider
recycling your old equipment by donating it to Summit Academy!
You might just reap a nice tax write-off!
Some
of the things we could use:
-
Computers that are 4.5 years old or newer (Pentium 4 processor or
newer, or MAC OSX or newer)
-
FLAT PANEL LCD computer monitors
-
Keyboards and/or optical mice
We'd
love to have businesses donate batches of computers that are coming
off of lease or being replaced. We are a not-for-profit
authorized Microsoft Office Refurbisher,
and as such, can take donated PC's, erase
the hard drives, and install Windows XP and Microsoft Office at
minimal cost to the school.
For
more information, and to confirm that the equipment can be put to
good use, contact our technology director Bob Deitel, at 619-3192.

Walk In My Shoes
Walk in your child's shoes - for one hour.
A 'Walk In My Shoes' is a fun and moving presentation designed to help parents,
family members and our community to better understand the
challenges facing children with learning differences.
This is a free presentation, not a
fundraiser. Bring your family, friends, pastor,
dentist - whoever might be interested
in our mission! We will do learning disability
simulations, hear what other parents have to say about Summit Academy, and have a brief
tour of the school.

Quips & Quotes
We had
our Homecoming basketball game last Thursday night. One of our
third grade students asked her teacher why it was called
"homecoming". The teacher explained that it's when
former students come back to visit.
The
student replied, "I guess they call it homecoming because coming
to Summit
is like coming home."
