Version 2.1

  January 11, 2010

Here's the corrected version.  I'm sorry - my computer blew up!

Sending Out An APB!

Parents -

Almost 25% of the Coupon Books that we sent home in backpacks have not been returned and have not been purchased.

Most of them are probably in the black hole of student's desks, backpacks or bedrooms.  Please check for these and return them, if you do not wish to purchase them.  Thanks!

If Santa was nice this year . . .

Maybe he brought you some new computer equipment!  If he did, consider recycling your old equipment by donating it to Summit Academy!  You might just reap a nice tax write-off!

Some of the things we could use:

- Computers that are 4.5 years old or newer (Pentium 4 processor or newer, or MAC OSX or newer)

- FLAT PANEL LCD computer monitors

- Keyboards and/or optical mice

- Routers and switches

We'd love to have businesses donate batches of computers that are coming off of lease or being replaced.  We are a not-for-profit authorized Microsoft Office Refurbisher, and as such, can take donated PC's, erase the hard drives, and install Windows XP and Microsoft Office at minimal cost to the school.

For more information, and to confirm that the equipment can be put to good use, contact our technology director Bob Deitel, at 619-3192.

Thank you so much!

Congratulations to Student Coby Steadmon!

Coby was selected for the travel squad of the Wizard basketball drill team.  The squad of about 20 kids will travel to schools in the area and show their ball handling skills.

It's really exciting that the his team will perform at half time for  the Harlem Globetrotter's game next Saturday at Freedom Hall!

shoesWalk In My Shoes

Parents -

Walk in your child's shoes - for one hour.

A 'Walk In My Shoes' is a fun and moving  presentation designed to help parents, family members and our community to better understand the challenges facing children with learning differences.

This is a free presentation, not a fundraiser.  Bring your family, friends, pastor, dentist -  whoever might be interested in our mission!  We will do learning disability simulations, hear what other parents have to say about Summit Academy, and have a brief tour of the school.

Walk In My Shoes Schedule

Wednesday, January 13, 2010 - 8:15 a.m.

Wednesday, February 10, 2009 - 8:15 a.m.

Quips & Quotes

. . .  a loaded question

The Kindergartners were learning the meaning of the word 'unique', and what makes each person unique.

The teacher said, "For example, what makes me unique?"

One student replied, "Well, you're old and you're hair is . . . ummmmmm different."

Going Green Facts & Tips

. . . a New Year's Resolution

Every year, a typical American family consumes:

182 gallons of soda

104 gallons of milk

29 gallons of juice

26 gallons of bottled water
