A little bit of this and a little bit of that about Kindergarten…

This is my first year having my own website, so please be patient with me. If you don’t see something on here you think would be helpful, please send me an email.

Room Parent

I will be looking for a room parent. This parent will be in charge or keeping in contact with PTO and planning our Halloween and Winter Party. They will also be in contact with me in case I need to find volunteers for things.

 Birthday Parties

We do celebrate Birthdays with the kids. We attempt to do this on or as close to their Birthday as possible. We begin our parties around 2 in the afternoon. A sweet treat can be sent in to share.  As of right now we have 15 students between Pre-K and Kindergarten.  

 Homework in Kindergarten

 

Yikes, homework!!! Please don't fret at the sound of homework in Kindergarten. I do give weekly homework, but you have all week to finish it. You will find worksheets in your kiddos folder on Mondays, I also ask that you send in 2-3 pictures that begin with the letter of the week.  These can come from magazines, newspaper, the computer, etc.  I send homework home on Mondays for a couple reasons. One, I know we are all busy with multiple things in our lives. Two, some nights the thought of getting your kiddo to sit down and do MORE school work makes you want to pull your hair out. This way you have all week to find that one or multiple nights to sit down with your kiddo to get it finished.  
Some weeks I will send home a Tic Tac Toe homework sheet.  Your kiddo will get to choose 3 different things to do.  You will sign off on the paper and send it in by Friday.  You will find the Tic Tac Toe paper under Forms if you need another one. 

 

Here is my big rule...Don't push your kid so hard to get the work done that they end up hating school, you, me, siblings, etc in the beginning. If you are struggling to get them to do it, please just send me a note. I will have a chat with them and maybe we can find something for them to do. By the end of the year they will be doing it no problem.
 

Show and Share

Wednesdays that begins with the letter of the week. Please help them find one thing around the house and I encourage you to practice with them on why/what they are bringing in.

Show and Share is a great way for kids to learn to become comfortable speaking in front of their peers. This also gives them the opportunity to share something special to them with their friends. During Show and Share it is also important to learn how to be an appropriate audience member. It is very hard not to interrupt the speaker, talk to your neighbor, or get distracted by other things going on in the room.

Healthy Snack

We will have snack everyday around 9:30 AM. Please send your kiddo in with healthy snack to help keep those brains working hard. The snack should be in a separate bag from their lunch if you child will be bringing one. I will provide water for them to drink during snack, please do not send in juice or milk for snack.

Clothing

Kindergarten does follow Summit’s uniform policy, but I do want the kids to feel comfortable in what they are wearing. Feel free to send your kiddo in elastic waist pants if they are uncomfortable in the button shorts/pants. As far as shoes, please send your kid in tennis shoes they can maneuver everyday (Velcro/slip ons if they are unable to tie). We will go outside for exercise and recess as long as weather permits. Be sure to send them in weather appropriate clothing.
